Immersive Theatre & Installation: Dear Armen

A multi-stranded narrative that follows the story of a genderqueer writer and student, Garo, as they study the life and work of Armen Ohanian, an enigmatic Armenian performer and survivor of the early 20th-century anti-Armenian pogroms in Baku. Dear Armen weaves the stories of three generations of Armenian women and queers — featuring a blend of monologue, folk dance, erotic performance and live music. It has transformed through many iterations, including immersive theatre to interactive installation, zine, workshop, and short film. It toured internationally through 2013-2016, received two residency periods in Armenia, and has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and BC Arts Council for various parts of its creation, production and touring.

The salacious Ms. Bloody Mary Anne leads a family of dysfunctional yet lovable burlesque, circus, and musical performers dedicated to pushing boundaries on and off the stage. The BBC has toured multiple times across USA, Canada, Japan, Europe, and Panama.

In the near future, a totalitarian government wipes out a resistance movement and surgically removes the voices of all resistor’s children. Years later, Velouria’s foster sister persuades her to pledge allegiance to the same regime in exchange for receiving voice integration therapy.
